Tips & Tricks

These tips and tricks are to help you when you are crafting, cooking, buying supplies, and anything else we can think of!

  • Buy only when things are on sale or when you have a coupon! I know Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabrics both run weekly sales so keep an eye on that!
  • If you are wanting fabric but not a lot of it go to Joann Fabrics Remnant section. Leftover fabric from the end of the rolls are cut off and rolled up. anything under 2 yards or so. And best yet....they are always 1/2 off!
  • Check out the clearance area in your local craft stores. You can find great ribbon and stickers for a fraction of the normal retail cost!
  • Check out the dollar stores when it comes to ribbon and twine.
  • Buy used! Garage sales rock when buying old picture frames, wood, windows, wedding supplies, etc. (Also Facebook is becoming even more popular for local towns and communities to have garage sale groups and site. Great place to ask around for materials that no one wants but you need!)
  • Try not to buy the crumbly wreath bases they fall apart when you work with them!
  • Ball your yarn first makes it easier to handle....yes it takes time but it helps!
  • Have enough space to work with. If you are cramped you will get grumpy and start messing up your project and get discouraged!
  • Don't use yarn around kittens when trying to work on a project...tends to become more of kitten play time then your personal craft time....
  • Buy cheap paint brushes for craft glue.
  • Keep your bits and pieces organized
  • It's ok to change your craft mid craft if the first idea isn't working there is no wrong way to craft!
  • Dollar stores Dollar stores Dollar stores
  • Clean as you go...a messy work place is no fun!
  • If working with mod-podge DON'T lay News Paper down....use a plastic garbage bag...if you use news paper it WILL create an unwanted mess and could ruin your craft!
  • Have projects in mind when buying supplies or else you end up spending a lot more money and still may not have what you need to do a craft you see.
  • Do crafts that use some of the same fixin's. So things don't go to waste!
  • When cleaning up after using twine, fabric, and/or burlap....DON'T use the vacuum! It will cause you a much unwanted headache and will force you to perform and open heart surgery on your poor vacuum! Trust me...took my dad and myself an hour to unplug it all....
